  • Swedish Massage; The most common type of massage is Swedish massage therapy. It involves soft, long, kneading strokes, as well as light, rhythmic, tapping strokes, on topmost layers of muscles. By relieving muscle tension, Swedish therapy can be both relaxing and energizing.

  • Sports massage: is a form of bodywork geared toward participants in athletics. It is used to help prevent injuries, to prepare the body for athletic activity and maintain it in optimal condition, and to help athletes recover from workouts and injuries. Stretching is incorporated in the session to help with muscle recovery and to improve circulation while elongating the muscle . Depending on when a sports massage is received it can be beneficial prior to an event and after an event, the massage approach changes. Post event sports massage is very important in muscle recovery in that it helps flush out the muscle “trash” that is built up that causes soreness from muscle exhaustion.

  • Deep tissue massage therapy can be similar to Swedish massage but with deep tissue massage techniques used in place of soft, long, kneading strokes, your therapist instead applies slow, firm pressure to release muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons, and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints). Many people that are recovering from surgery or injury can benefit from deep tissue massage techniques to help break up and eliminate the buildup of scar tissue. Scar tissue is described as the connective tissue forming a scar and composed chiefly of fibroblasts in recent scars and largely of dense collagenous fibers in old scars. Breaking up and eliminating scar tissue with deep tissue massage can help the guest make as much of a complete recovery after surgery or injury especially when used in conjunction with physical therapy. In most cases the guest must wait 6 weeks post surgery or post injury to receive any type of massage therapy unless released by the doctor which includes a doctor’s note releasing the massage therapist from liability.

  • Myofascial Release is a manipulative treatment that attempts to release tension in the fascia due to trauma, posture, or inflammation. Connective tissues called fascia surround the muscles, bones, nerves, and organs of the body. Fascia is an extensive network of sheets of connective tissue covering or binding together body structures (such as muscles). Plantar Fasciitis (described as foot pain, tightness and an overall feeling of not being able to walk due to the discomfort) is a popular complaint that can be relieved with myofascial release therapy. Not all massage therapists are certified and trained in myofascial release.

  • CranioSacral Therapy: This technique is a gentle, noninvasive form of massage that addresses the bones and muscles of the head, spinal column, and sacrum to help reduce stress and pain. Not all, but some people that suffer from migraines may benefit from this type of therapy. Not all massage therapists are certified and trained in cranial sacral massage.

  • Prenatal massage is therapeutic bodywork that focuses on the special needs of the mother-to-be as her body goes through the dramatic changes of pregnancy. It enhances the function of muscles and joints, improves circulation and general body tone, and relieves mental and physical fatigue. Not all massage therapists are certified and trained in prenatal massage.

  • Deep pressure vs. Deep tissue massage therapy: Pressure can vary depending on the massage therapist’s ability to change the pressure while delivering different massage modalities. Some therapists can deliver deep pressure but may not be fluent in Deep tissue techniques which not only utilizes a deeper pressure but encompuses techniques that are specific to Deep tissue.
